    1. Cummins
    2. I am looking for Pleasant Thomas Cummins father or mother. Pleasant born 12/20/2810 in North Carolina, USA. It may be possible that his parents migrated from Scotland. Does anyone know how I can search Scotland's records for them? Can I do it over the intranet?

    3. Betty, Would also like to say "thank you" for the lists you have subscribed of the lost children who were shipped from the U.K. to former Commonwealth countries. In 1992 a book came out in Australia named "The Lost Children" but when I asked to buy a copy in Woolongong, N.S.W. was told none left after a call to Sydney. Happily there is one waiting for me to collect in Perth W.A. end next month named "The Lost Children of The Empire" by Philip Bean and the contact address for this out of print book is: muir@merriweb.com.au Thousands of children never ever saw their families again because of these cruel actions. Indeed, many parents did not know their children had been shipped off but the Records which lay in Archives have now come to light and many questions are being asked after 50/60 years on. 2. Hi all, Here is the next installment of the extracts that I have downloaded from Scots Origins. These are the marriages and the Bands. The grooms name is first. Please note, there are a few that have more than one entry, this is not a typo. I will be posting the Births that I have downloaded in three parts as it is a long list. I also have this file on spreadsheet form if anyone would like to have it, please email me. One last note, if you find anyone that matches your info, please let me know. These are from the main surnames that I am reseaching , so we might have a match further down the road. 2. Daphne Kilbourn-Jacob
    3. Dear fellow listers, R. Bell in his "Book of Scots-Irish Family Names" says that the latter surname was anglicized to CHRISTISON and CHRISTY(IE) and is exclusively Scottish. G.Black in "Surnames of Scotland" is silent on this subject, altho both authors report that the two surnames are most common in Fife and sorounding areas. Does anyone with these families in their Trees or knowledge of the names confirm or refute Bell's conclusion? Both names mean roughly 'son of the Servant of Christ'. Thanks for any help, Daphne

    3. i think you did a good deed,in fact i was whatching the news recently i think it was 60 minutes ,they were talking about this same subject , but some of the childrens parents only placed the children in orphanages temporarily because of hardships, when they went back to get their children the children were already shipped off to work farms and such . the children would ask when they were going home or when is their parents coming to get them and the children were told the parents had died. the show did have some happy ending some of the parents were reunited with their children recently and there is an ongoing investigation with the hopes of reuniting more or to at least let the truth be known. When I go to Scotland next year, will I be able > to find this address? The Barony is basically the area of Glasgow which has been taken over by Strathclyde University. Even if the address exists, I would not look to see the original house. However a visit to the Mitchell Library will put you on the right track. Do not be disappointed however of the place where the house was is a road. > My great-grandfather James MacDougall Craig and his brothers and sisters were > baptised at the London Road United Presbyterian Church, Glasgow, Lanark, > Scotland, between 1854 and 1865. I have been told that the church no longer > exists ... where would the records from the 1800s be now? Could anyone guess > where the present-day Craig family would be attending church? The records of the Church would be in the Scottish Archives. All Church records are supposed to be deposited there. If I may say so, speculation about where a family might be attending Church is a rather futile experiment. In the last 130 Years Glasgow has undergone tremendous social changes. (The changes in the last 60 have almost amounted to Glasgow reinventing itself) The Church itself will have undergone two changes of denomination, and at least one of name (I suspect that it was probably called London Road East before it closed). The community will have been redeveloped, and the family will probably have experienced social mobility. In the same way as the branch which you are connected to moved, so it is quite likely that the rest of the family moved. Assuming that they stayed in Glasgow they might be in one of the Peripheral Housing estates. Where would you expect your family to be in 130 years time? 2. Newhall street is just off main street, Bridgeton, Glasgow about one quarter mile from Bridgeton cross, and near the banks of the river clyde, whither the houses or number 3 is still there is another question Bridgeton and Glasgow in general is a much changed place since the 1960s when a great deal of old homes were demolished. I have taken it upon my self to forward your query to the Clan-macpherson list incase any one else in USA or Uk can be of assistance. 2. I have three questions that I hope someone can help me with ... I have this possible address for my great-great-grandmother Ann Cunningham Craig (widow of Alexander Craig) in the late 1800s: 3 Newhall Street, Barony, Lanark, Scotland ... When I go to Scotland next year, will I be able to find this address? My great-grandfather James MacDougall Craig and his brothers and sisters were baptised at the London Road United Presbyterian Church, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, between 1854 adn 1865. I have been told that the church no longer exists ... where would the records from the 1800s be now? Could anyone guess where the present-day Craig family would be attending church? In the early 1900s (until his death in 1922), my great-grandfather lived in North Andover, Massachusetts, USA, and was active in the Clan MacPherson, #80, O.S.A., which met in Black Prince Hall on Essex Street, in Lawrence, MA. I sure would like to find some pictures of this group. Anybody have any clues? Thank you all ... Kay Gleason
