Hi, Eileen, I appreciate the thought, but we have looked for her marriage, and she seems not to have used RAE. At this point, we can't find a marriage. Hi Jan I'm afraid the birth certificates don't have very much information on them. This is what it contains. Name of child when and where born sex of child name, surname and rank or profession of father. Name and surname of mother date and place of marriage, signature and qualification of informant and where and by whom it is registered. Hope this helps, Keep Climbing, Lynnda Scallon Arch1122@aol.com Searching SCALLON, McGRORY, McMANUS, TIERNAN, McFADYEN, DAILY, and DUFFY
Hello Jim There was a Clan MacPherson Pipe Band when I was active in the Ladies Auxilary of Clan Wallace in Beverly. I don't know if the band is still active. The Clan MacPherson did hold their monthly meetings in Andover. When Clan Wallace in Beverly disbanded, many members (women and men) joined Clan MacPherson in Andover. Unfortunately, I did not as I do not drive. >From an old "Highlander" magazine I found the Clan MacPherson Association, United States Branch. The address was listed as 5401 Sheffield Court, Alexandria, VA 22311. They might be able to help you. Lynn: You answered your own question. "She married a railroader and went to Africa." Look in the marriages under her maiden name, starting when she was about 16, and work forward from there. You'll find her. I only have four children listed: William, Margaret, Elisabeth and Nicolas (who was a woman). They were born to William Swan and Margaret Peacock who were married on 23 November 1830 in Liberton, Edinburgh. The family was living in Cambusnethan at Muirhouse in 1841. I have not gone and looked at the 1851 census to see if there is a robert that shows up. If there was he would probably be much younger than yours. I wonder though if there is a connection between the William Swan Senior and your Robert? Sorry that I can't provide more help. I will CC this over to the Lanarkshire newsgroup----- Original Message ----- From: George Williams <gandjwilliams@nationwideisp.net> To: <tinkers@olypen.com> Sent: Saturday, October 23, 1999 12:07 PM Subject: Swans in Carluke > Hi, found your interest in the Carluke Swans on a Lanarkshire Website. Since I have no idea to where in Africa this great aunt of mine emigrated, I am throwing this out to the list, in hopes that those of you who read the list from Africa may recognize the name. I now know that "Kate" was born 4 July 1877 in East Benhar, Fauldhouse, Linlithgow. Her parents were Francis LINDSAY and Mary FORBES BAIRD. What I don't know is her husband's name. The only thing my Aunt Helen remembers about her Aunt Kate is that " she married a railroader and went to Africa to live." Does anyone "out of Africa" recognize Catherine RAE LINDSAY as a family member? Hi, does anyone know the exact date the 1881 census was taken in Scotland? Grandfather -in-law is shown as less than one month old, so that might pin his dob down a bit. (John Henry McCHLERY, born Leswalt, in Stranraer at time of census with his parents, John McCHLERY and Mary, at 19 Millhill Rd.) Hello everyone Sorry this is off topic but I thought someone out there might be able to help me. I am using Outlook Express and save my incoming mail if it is of any interest, eg. names I am researching, links that look interesting until I get a chance to get back to them. My problem is, that if I have to leave it I have trouble trying to find out where I was up to and then have start going through them again. I know that I could write it on a piece of paper but then I would have to find that!! Is there someway that I can mark where I was up to? Hope this is not too big an ask but I feel it may be something other peole would like to know too. Cheers from Annette in a very overcast, wet day in Dubbo NSW

Hi All, I am hoping that someone out there can supply me with any information regarding immigration from the Isle of Lewis to Ontario (specifically Bruce County) after 1840. I have been researching my gg grandfather, Malsolm CAMPBELL, who was there is 1840. He settled in Huron Township, Bruce County where many immigrants from the Isle of Lewis also settled. I am looking for the ships that they came on and anything else that may help me to find my ancestor. Thanks for any help, April Campbell Researching Campbell, Pettigrew, McLean, Townsend, Mathieson and Card.
