    3. Hi, Did not catch the original message only the reply below, so am sending this to the list in the hope that the original sender will see it. Newhall Street is, according to my 1989 Glasgow Street directory which I admit will now be out of date, not far from Bridgeton Cross, to the west off a street called Main Street (Bridgeton Main Street?). In the Post Office Directory of 1958/59 there are only a few numbers listed (35, 57, 34 and 32), suggesting that the rest of the street may have been demolished before this time, as much of this area was. The 1881 census lists 20 fanlies at this address, including Ann CRAIG. The reference si volume 644/1 enum dist 43 page 13, in case you have not found this. She is there with her daughter, Elizabeth. If you have not seen this extract, let me know and I will send you what there is. 3. Hi Anette, you do know you can send your messages to a folder? Well juste seperate your folders into different types. Whenever you want to keep a message click on the title then chose send to, when on folder click to chose a new name. This way you can keep all your messages in different folders. If you need more instructions I would be glad to send it to you in more details. 3. Dear April, I checked my copy of "A Register of Emigrant Families from the Western Isles of Scotland to Ontario, Canada - Part 1 Bruce, Grey & Huron Counties etc", and there is a Malcolm Campbell listed. I would be interested in your source for the date of 1840. The earliest recorded settlers to Huron Township were circa 1849/50, and the land wasn't officially offered for sale until July 30th, 1852. Was your Malcolm married or single at the time he emigrated? The Malcolm listed among the Lewis settlers, came over as a bachelor, in 1851. Hope this proves helpful, Cathy. > Subject: Isle of Lewis to Ontario > Date: Sat, 23 Oct 1999 10:05:17 -0400 > From: April Campbell <acampbell@ionline.net> > To: SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.com > > Hi All, > > I am hoping that someone out there can supply me with any information > regarding immigration from the Isle of Lewis to Ontario (specifically Bruce > County) after 1840. 3. Hi Michael, Thank you for the message. So far I haven't found any variations for the name EDGE in my research. I have John/Jack EDGE who married Ann FOSTER/FORSTER/FORRESTER at Chester in 1872 John was born Tarvin, Cheshire c 1850 and Ann c 1852 at Ellesmere Port. All their children seem to have been born in Cheshire. Who knows what I'll find when I get further back. Thought "EDGE" was an uncommon name when I got married in Aust. My husband came out here aged 12 When I started to research the name, I found there were dozens of John Edge in the records. Good luck with your research. From the Scots Origins website you can search, for a fee, the indexes of the old parish records of baptisms and marriages up to 1855 and official indexes of births, deaths and marriages after 1855. You can order a copy of individual baptismal records in the old parish registers but they usually tell you no more than the date of the baptism, the name of the child and the names of the parents. Sometimes the name of the mother is not recorded. If you are very lucky, the entry may give the birth date of the child and state if the parents were lawfully married or not. I've not come across a baptismal record which lists other children of the marriage. The way I have found these children is to search the index for baptisms, 10 years at a time, by leaving the box for the child's name blank and just entering the parents names, remembering always to tick the soundex boxes. Good luck! __________________________ Keith Dash Sydney, Australia
