Hello, Everyone. I'm a little surprised at the pessimism of recent comments on pre-155 birth/baptismal records. At the very least, OPR Baptisms give the father's name, location, and the names of at least two witnesses. If you are very lucky, they give both parents' names, their location, father's occupation, a date of birth as well as baptism, and a string of witnesses, with their locations and even relationships to the child/parents. In between these two extremes, there are many, many entries which yield potentially useful information. Unless you look, you will never know how helpful OPR Baptisms can be. Please, don't disregard them. It is not very wise to try to reconstruct a family from indexes alone. They are only a guide to primary sources. Regards, Alyson

Sharlene: I am using Outlook Express, but my Folder tab just has "New Folder", "Rename", "Compact" and "Compact All Folders". This is apparently a bare-bones jobbie without extra frills (if you can call them "frills"). Manufacturer went bankrupt in August, so I guess they had more problems than they could handle. Hi Lucille, well here comes yet another suggestion. My guru has suggested that if you are not having any luck when following the advise being given, that you may need to reinstall the software for outlook express. If it isn't properly installed ( not your fault it just happens sometimes ) the program will run just not to it's full ability. Outlook express is part of Internet Explorer 5 & is freely available on the Internet at www.microsoft.com Good luck. Carolyn McInnes mcinnes@net2000.com.au

I would like to know if you can access any census information (re Scotland, England, Ireland) online and, if so, where. I am especially interested in Greenock, Dunoon and Dublin (1800-1900). I was tempted to buy Family Tree which boasts 1.5 billion records on 10 discs but having purchased the LDS UK Vital Records Index and not finding very much I thought I had better make some enquiries first. Thanks for any assistance. Hugh McLachlan

Hello, I'm here again with that name, VALLAR. The only thing is I've now been told that Stephen VALLAR may have changed his name from Stephen HENSON. Does anyone know of this man? He may have been around Glasgow in 1902. Two places he's connected with are Glasgow and Steppe. Has anyone 'seen' him anywhere or anyone of that name still in Scotland? Kind regards. Barbara. Lucile: Do you have a file that says LOCAL FOLDERS? If it has a + sign to the left of it, click on the plus sign and the other folders should show up. Can I just say to the ones who are struggling with the software: Don't be so hard on yourselves! Look how much we have all learned in the last 5 years or so. I teach this stuff part-time and if it were not for the help of more knowedgeable colleagues I would never have figured out what little I do know. They say the same. I have found this list in particular to be most generous and helpful, and want to express gratitude for that.
