    3. Hi found this info regardings Drysdale in a film thought it may be of help to Drysdale researchers. Ref History of Clackmannan Film 0257825 Regards Jenny .."Thomas, William and James Douglas sons of the departed Thomas Douglas of Brushwood-Haugh, in the parih of Drysdale and shire of Dumfries, left our native place for the reason here assigned, viz: Defening our just and lawful rights agains our unjust neighbour, Johnstone of Greenstone-hill, who being determined to bring water to his mill through our property, and having obtained leave of his friend the king, began his operations on Monday the 16th May. We prevented him by force. The next day he brought twenty of his vassals ot carry on the work. We, with two friends and three servants (eight in all), attacked Johnstone with his twenty: and in the contest fourteen of his men were killed, along with their base leader." Anyway the result was that they ran away and hid for 2 years and returned home in disguise to find their property in the possesion of Johnstone's friends and a reward offered for their lives.. "We having purchased a samall shot called the Haugh of Dollar, and changed our names to the name of our native parish, and ar clearly in mind to spend the residue of our days under the ope of the Ochils, and wish the name of Drysdale to flourish in the lonely valley." .."the descendants of those three brothers Douglas (now known by the name of Drysdale), and copied first by Symon Drysdale, of the Haugh of Dollar, in the year 1620, by Robert Drysdale, of Tillicoultry, in 1708, and renewed at differed times since then."

    1. MILLS
    2. Samantha Ward
    3. Hi everyone I am new to the list and am hoping someone will recognise my MILLS family living in south of England but originally from Scotland. I have quite a few details for them, so bear with me: In particular, Sadie Gabrielle MILLS(b.1905/06) married Albert Edward TAYLOR(b.1903/04) 23 Apr 927 in Willesden, Mdx. Her father William MILLS, Picture Frame Maker. Groom's father John Taylor, tobacconist of Cricklewood, Nth. London. Sadie had a sister Moira, who married the English actor John Turnbull. Albert's father John, was the uncle of famous five-times British Open Gol winner J H Taylor(1871-1963) Albert and Sadie had two children Kathleen Margaret(Kay) b.1928 Sth London, and John born in the 1930s probably in SCT. Albert lived with his sister Jean(Eva Alice) WARD for a while in Harrow Weald, Mdx, while Sadie and children stayed up in Scotland after living in Harrow for a time. The family then moved to Northwood Hills, Mdx. Albert was a motor mechanic and worked at either Northwood Hills Motors or a garage in North Harrow. Albert's mother Kate then moved in with them in 1948, after having moved from Blewbury, Berkshire. Wanted to escape the nuclear plant at Harwell apparently. She was later retired to a home in Cranleigh, Surrey. My family then lost contact with Albert and Sadie some time in the 1950s. I am the neice of Albert's sister, Jean, and would like to recontact the family. Albert's cousin John Taylor(another John, ex-RAF) would also like to be in touch. It is possible the family emigrated to Canada but have been unable to confirm this. Does this family ring a bell with anyone? Samantha

    3. Hi, There can be quite a variation on OPR baptisms given the clerk in charge. You can get parish records where the writing is beautiful and the information exact on the other hand try the New Monkland registers about 1830. There were so many people flooding into the area that the parish register became a mere accounts book and the writing was terrible. My ancestors were merely recorded as paying to be married in May of 1830. No parents, no witnesses, no nothing. 3. A quick comment. I would recommend the "Teach Yourself _____ Visually" series by IDG. I have them all for Office 97, Excel 97, Computers and the Internet, Windows 95, Access 97 and Word 97. Outlook is in the Office 97 book. They are just wonderful and self-explanatory in a very clear, logical manner with lots of graphics to illustrate. My impression after reviewing them at the bookstore is that they are a little better, maybe a little more substance, than the "Simplified" series also by IDG and recommended in a previous post. They cost about $30 USD ea., but are worth every penny. I've noticed they are coming out with new versions on the whole Microsoft 2000 software. Look them up on www.amazon.com or the other internet bookstores such as barnes and noble and you can probably get reviews and order for reduced prices. Good luck to all, Nancy Mayville Alton, NH, USA
