    2. Angus P. Robinson
    3. Good Evening Doug, Deed book means that if the land was sold or purchased it would have been entered into an official journal, probably kept in the County Court House. The Deed it self would have given the lot or location of the property, amount sold for and the names of those selling and those buying. It also serves another purpose, it will give an idea where your early ancestor was buried. Most were buried in a plot of ground near the old homestead. Buried with them would have been slaves (in a separate section) and close friends and neighbors. I am not aware of the practice in your areas but this applies to what is termed the Colonial and, later, United States. 3. Hello Hope I am posting this message correctly. I have come to a dead-end with my research, having checked through FHC's, libraries etc. I am now looking for some serious help. Could anyone who has access to Census CDRoms do a look up for me 1841, 1891 and further if they have them. I am looking for info on any Habbicks in the hope it may help. I have a John Habbick who according to LDS was born around 1770 and who married a Susannah King around 1790 and I have absolutely no other info, nor can I find any further info on them. The names of the family are: William, born Dunfermline, Fife. Died 1870 John Joseph, born Culross, Perthshire. Born 1797 James, born Culross, Perthshire. Born 1798, Died 1854. Mathew, born Torryburn, Fife. Born 1802, Died 1854 Robert Reid, Torryburn, Fife. Born 1802. If anyone has any info or advice as to where I can go next I would be most grateful. May Habbick, Admin. By the way, my ancestor's name was James >> Woodhead Ross and he married Elizabeth Allardice in Kirriemuir. What >> was your "Tiree" family's name? Pat - From your reference to Kirriemuir, I think it is probable that what you are looking for is the village of Balinshoe, on the east side of Scotland a couple of miles west of Forfar and about 15 miles north of Dundee. The town of Kirriemuir is 2-3 miles west of Balinshoe. Not anywhere near the Isle of Tiree I'm afraid. The Parish of Kirriemuir might be the place to start. Good luck! __________________________ Keith Dash Sydney, Australia

    3. I would appreciate any information about the Reformatory & Refuge for Boys on Duke Street in Glasgow in 1881. Can anyone tell me what kind of institution was it? I noticed the "inmates" there have many different occupations. Was it a place for learning trades or an institution where boys were sent for other reasons i.e. they were orphans, delinquents, etc.? Any information would be appreciated. *********************** * Victoria P. Sawchuk * * Winnipeg, Mb * * Canada * ***********************

    3. I am researching the elusive William Scott who came to America in 1738. Tradition tells he was born on the ocean coming from Ireland, but they were suppose to be Scottish. I have been unable to find any information on this line in Ireland or Scotland. He settled in Pennsylvania and moved later to Kentucky. I do not know his parents name. Brothers include: We think the eldest, Francis, James, John, Robert ( born in Rye Ireland), Patrick, Andrew and William the youngest. (2 half brothers being Andrew and John) I do not know William's first wives name. His second was Helen Montgomery b. Dublin Ireland about 1742. They married near Lancaster Pennsylvania in 1767. Children: Robert m. Ann Galloway, John m. Mary Congleton, Margaret m. James Wilson, and Patrick m Annie Campbell m. Sally Poston. The family has been traced in the States, but no one seems to know where they came from. (so that is like your line) Good Luck!! Nancy -----Original Message----- From: JbarL@aol.com <JbarL@aol.com> To: SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.com <SCOTLAND-GENWEB-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, November 02, 1999 10:16 PM Subject: Re: Two Strays I found in Colorado, USA Nancy...May I ask which Scotts you are researching? I too am searching for a very elusive Scott who migrated to East New Jersey in 1684 from Montrose Scotland. His name was Alexander Scott , he died in 1700 leaving a widow Ellin , three children Elizabeth, Alexander and Samuel. They resided in Elizabethtown and Rahway NJ. The son Alexander moved to the south Branch of the Potomac, Augusta Co (now Hardy and Grant Co's WV) Alexander Scott has many descendants scattered over the US but not one of them seems to know where he came from in Scotland or who his parents were. Does this fit your Scott family? 1. Shelby County Kentucky Pollard's and Oregon Territory
    2. pollard
    3. Good Day: Seeking genealogical and historical information on the Pollard's of Shelby County, Kentucky circa 1800-1855. I am especially interested in the family of George Tompkins Pollard and connecting surnames which may be "Irish" or "Scottish" or "French" in origin. George Tompkins Pollard and his brother (-s) were some of the oldest settler's living in Old Walla Walla County (Washington, USA). And, the Pollard surname was clearly identified with the "Inland Empire" in several old historical publications. According to my data, George was born in Linn County, Missouri, on June 15, 1835. He was the son of Roger B. and Sarah C. (Smith) Pollard. Roger Pollard's father was a native of Richmond, Virginia. And, his mother was born in Rockingham County, Virginia. Roger and Sarah Pollard were married in Shelby County, Kentucky. And, in 1820, they moved to Linn County, Missouri; where they lived for over 20 years. Later, they moved to the Platte Purchase, Missouri and settled near St. Joseph, Missouri; where they are buried. in 1851, he left home at the age of 16; and crossed the plains with an "ox team" to California. By July of 1855, at the age of 19, George is said to have made his way "northward into Oregon Territory" to visit a brother (-s) who were already living in Old Walla Walla County. I am very interested in corresponding with anyone who may have any information that connects their Pollard's or other surnames with George and his elusive brothers. Presently, I am seeking information on Roger B. and Sarah C. (Smith) Pollard and George's elusive brothers. Thanks in advance for any information or leads.
