I hope I have not infected anyone. Thanks Robin

    3. I know it can be a bit risky but then I've never had a problem myself with sending bank notes for smallish transactions. I enclose the notes in a separate envelope, folded up inside the outer envelope, which I register. I've been doing this for about twelve years without loss. English banknotes can be ordered through your local bank branch - if you have one left :-) - or purchased through a Thomas Cook travel agency. 1. [SCOTS~GEN] MacKay,Gibson,Munro
    2. Robin Van Belleghem
    3. Hi Everyone I am new to this list and my name is Robin. The families that I am researching are. William MacKay born abt 1808 Edderton ROC, wife Isabel Munro born abt 1811 Tain,William and Isabel married 1824 in either Tain or Edderton. Their children were Janet 1829, Christian 1830, Andrew 1832[my g.g.grandfather], Margaret 1836, Bell 1839 and William 1842. My g.g.grandfather Andrew McKay's wife was Catherine Gibson born 1824 in Dornach,Sutherland, her parents were Donald Gibson and Janet MacKay of Sutherland. Andrew and Catherine's children were Unnamed boy 1860, Donald George 1861, Isabella 1863[g.grandmother] and Alexander 1865, all born in Fearn, Ross and Cromarty. My g.grandmother had my grandfather Andrew MacKay July 1 1891 in Balnain, Urray, ROC out of wedlock. Andrew left Scotland at the age of 13 and came to Canada, where he lived until he died in 1968. Unfortunatly I know virtually nothing else about my family in Scotland, and have come up against brick walls for the Gibsons of Sutherland, the Munros of Tain, William MacKay of Edderton and my g.grandmother Isabella MacKay. If there is anyone out there that can help me I would really appreciate it. I am hoping to find living relatives in Scotland. Thank You Robin [email protected]

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] Sending money abroad
    2. May Habbick
    3. Hello List, This is my second posting regarding this. I had several previous replies from the list stating that money orders and / or drafts would be the best way. I have just contacted my bank to find out about this and they have told me that it will cost be 12 pounds sterling over and above the cost of the draft to send the money abroad. As the amount I will be sending abroad is 15 pounds which is payment to a Historical Society for sending me some photocopies of papers then I think the additional 12 pounds is quite excessive especially when they cannot guarantee that the people at the other end will not incur charges too. Surely there is a cheaper way to send money abroad without the other person receiving the money having to pay any charges. I look forward to some help and advice on this matter. Thanks May -- May Habbick, Admin.Assistant/Secretary, Vice Dean's Office. Tel: 0141-950-3261 E-mail: [email protected]

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] 1891 Cenus
    2. Would SKS kindly look on the 1891 census for Bridgeton, Glasgow to see if they can locate the following family. George SAYERS - Butcher - born about 1858 Jessie SAYERS - wife - born about 1860 George SAYERS - son - born 1887 Charles SAYERS - son - born 1888 Annie Phillips SAYERS - born 1889 and possibly James Phillips SAYERS - born 1891 I have the marriage certificate of George & Jessie, (which give their parents names), I have their death certificates, I have their medical records from the Royal Infirmary Glasgow, where they died (but unfortunately these don't give date and place of birth) and I have records of all the children's births, but I just cannot get back any further. I have visited the GRO in Edinburgh twice and spent a fortune on Scots Origins to no avail. I really need to find out where George & Jessie (m.s. Phillips) were born and when so that I can continue my quest. If anyone could offer any further suggestions I would be most grateful. TIA Barbara Peachey Milton Keynes Buckinghamshire England

    2. Ron Garson
    3. I expect you are aware that Evelyn Greer was Greer Garson's (Eileen Evelyn Greer Garson) aunt. Greer Garson was a frequent visitor to the Murrays and with the early death of Greer Garson's father, James Campbell Murray became a second father to the famous actress. 'Mrs Miniver' portrayal was modelled on aunt Evelyn Greer. There is quite a bit about the Murrays including some photographs in the recent biography " A Rose for Mrs Miniver- The Life of Greer Garson" by Michael Troyan. Ron DJ & CA Simpson wrote: > my family name is murray (of atholl). my grandfather, james campbell murray, was a medical practitioner in glasgow. he died in/near burma in 1938. married evelyn greer from ireland who died in usa 1/12/1974. i know james' father was also james and he married margaret campbell. > > thanking you in anticipation > > chris > > ==== SCOTLAND-GENWEB Mailing List ==== > All mail to the list must be addressed to; [email protected] > if you don't follow the above example, it will end up in the trash can.
