    2. Grant E. L. Buttars
    3. In Scotland, England & Wales, every 10 years from 1801 (excluding 1941 due to the war). There is a 100 year closure period and only those from 1841 are generally available/useful. There are currently various digitisation projects on the go but nothing is yet on the web. Scots Origins have an online index to 1891 and 1881 is available on CD ROM from LDS distributors. I'm not sure about Ireland. A lot of Irish records were lost in 1916. Look at more detailed census information at http://www.genuki.org.uk/ Grant E. L. 3. > David Ogilvy born 1804 who did his apprenticeship at The Signet Law Firm >Edinburgh starting on 26th July 1832, Colin, I have a feeling you may have misunderstood the phrase 'Writer to the Signet'. This is basically a fancy phrase meaning solicitor, deriving orginally from the Monarch's own signet, which was used as a seal. Regards, Grant Buttars
