Linda in Calif. Small correction here! Many of the records( such as Kirk Session records) of the Church of Scotland are now with the Scottish Archives formerly known as the Scottish Record Office. They are in the Scottish Archives Office in Princes St., Edinburgh. Also the B.M.&D are with General Record |Office of Scotland (GROS) A visit to http://www.nas.gov.uk/ and http://wood.ccta.gov.uk/grosweb/grosweb.nsf/pages/famrec will help to show you who has what! Hope this helps! Elma Richmond, Glasgow, Scotland, U.K.
Renee, Have you posted your request to the different Irish county boards? I know of a few Naughton's in Galway, you would try there. Eileen
I 'm sorry if my request seems a little naive, but I am very new to geneology. I have seen a few list members recently asking for someone to "look-up" a Census entry. Is it possible to obtain copies of Census records for given areas (i.e. Glasgow) via the Internet? If so, where would you obtain them (apart from Scots Origins) and what would the costs be? If they are not available for download is there a body that will email you copies of entries for say the 1891 Census? I apologise once more for my ignorance and hope that someone is able to help. Best Wishes ~ Kenny ~ A new bug-bitten family searcher.

Thank you in advance ===== Best wishes Kay Podmore Bensville NSW Australia _____________________________________________________________________________ http://messenger.yahoo.com.au - Yahoo! Hello listers, A while back I remember seeing a posting on one of the lists regarding the McILWHINNIE surname. That was before I knew that my gr-gr-grandfather John O'HARA's sister Jane O'HARA was married to Alexander McILWHINNIE. I've looked through the archives of this list, but can't find anything. If that McILWHINNIE researcher is on this list could you let me know if you have an O'HARA connection? Thank you. Win MacKenzie Victoria, Canada
I am looking for information on a Park/Parke family who came from Scotland to Ireland in the 1600's. Names are William, John, and Arthur Park. Spouses surnames are Jack and Hood. Thank you for ANY information. Kaye Park Hinckley, Al
Could someone tell me how to access the census for Scotland. Did they do this every 10 years. I'm interested in finding my grandfather Samuel Alexander Dinning and great-grandmother Susan (Blackstock) Dinning in Lanark Scotland. They left Armagh ? and went to Scotland in the Glasgow area. My father Samuel and two siblings were born in Scotland and moved to Hamilton Canada about 1913. How much information was given in the census of the time of 1900-1910 Sam Dinning Hamilton Ontario
New to the list. We are looking for information on my husband's great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents. If anyone has any coinciding information, it would be great! Great-great-grandparents: Bernard Naughton who was married to Peggy (Margaret?) McDonach--they emigrated from Ireland to Scotland during the Famine. There is no county listed on any of the paperwork we have that has been passed down thru family members--we are beginning to wonder if they "quietly escaped" from Ireland! And, if so, we really don't care! We would like just to find a county. Great-grandparents: Michael Naughton and Mary McAvoy. They were married on April 10, 1864 (possibly 1863) in Coatbridge in Old Monkland. In 1881 British Census, they lived at 15 Hope Street, Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland. They had 6 children: James, Michael, John, Mary Ann, Bernard Aloysius, and Hugh. (The Bernard listed here is the grandparent listed below. ) In 1940 when Bernard Aloysius died, he reportedly had left a brother Hugh in Scotland. So, Hugh.....are you out there somewhere? Or are your children out there somewhere?! Grandparents: Bernard Aloysius Naughton and Mary Currie. They were married in Kirkintilloch in RC Cathedral on April 15, 1898. Bernard was born in Newmains, Lanark County, Wishaw, Scotland. Mary was born in Alexandria, Dunbarton County. Bernard's birth certificate reads "McNaughton" but they went by Naughton. They came to the U.S. in 1906 and had 11 children with the first five being born in Scotland. Children: Mary Ann, Catherine L., Margaret Elizabeth, Michael, Bernard Leo, John J., Theresa, Vincent Patrick, Leona Helen, James Francis, and Rita Mae. We are hitting a brick wall at this point with information on Michael and Mary (great-grandparents) and where they were born in Ireland and the same with the great-great-grandparents. Sure would welcome any ideas or help. Many thanks! Jim and Renee

And then from there they went to the Niagara Falls area then on to settle in Markham twp. York Co. by abt. 1804. Then some of them moved to Genesse Co. Michigan. Michigan is where I am from Midland Co. Michigan. Well, I hope this info trigger's something for someone out there in list land, & thank you in advance for taking the time to read through all of this & any help. Kevin Miller Coleman MI
Margaret, All Presbyterian Church Records members, marriages, Baptisms, daeths are kept by the local church. In Scotland the Parish keeps the records. There is no central pool of records. The National Presbyterian Church office e-mail or website is www.pcusa.org for history www.history.pcusa.org. The next level of governent in the Presbyterian church is called the Presbytery. The Prebytery oversees an area of churches. It checks the church records every year but does not maintain copies of membership rolls, marriages, death or baptisms in those churches. Linda in Calif.
Margaret, Since the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) has the largest single repository in the world for genealogical records and information, they seem to be the most likely to have a web site to aid in the use of their records. If you are looking for Presbyterian church records you might try looking on the LDS site for the particular place your people would have lived in and see if the Presbyterian records for that location have been filmed and are available through that site. Many churches and other organizations have given permission for their records to be filmed by the LDS church because there is no charge to them plus the LDS church will give the repository of the records a copy of the film free of charge. Our clan organization in the US had a group of records filmed by them and we not only have them where anyone can access them now, but we also have our records back in our clan library and a microfilm copy also--all for free. A definite win-win situation if you ask me. What kind of help do you need? Particular records and information from them or knowledge of how to locate and/or use the records and information?
