    3. I was so excited to receive the above transcriptions from Drew, that in my haste to share some of the names that had come up on the list recently, I clean forgot to give credit (copyright) to Drew, who has done a magnificent job. He also went to a lot of trouble to copy and paste the information in several e-mails because I could not seem to get the hang of opening the downloaded information. Drew, I humbly apologise for my oversight. Annette in Dubbo NSW

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] William HALL and Anthony HALL
    2. Hi, I'm a new subscriber and fairly new to this, and would appreciate some help. I'm searching for my grandfather's half-brother, William HALL. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1872, and in 1891 was an Apprentice Riveter in the Shipyard. He moved to Scotland late 1800's/early 1900's, but I don't know where. I would think because of his job it would probably be in the Glasgow area, but can't be sure. His father was also a William and his mother Mary Ann WILLIAMSON, although she died when he was 2. His father remarried Elizabeth DAVISON when he was 9/10 and he had 5 half-brothers/sisters, John 1884, Lily 1886, Anthony 1888, Manie 1890 and Kate about 1892/3. We last heard about him in about 1924 when he visited Newcastle and my grandfather, Anthony, told my father "the big friendly Scotsman, wearing a kilt, was his Uncle Willie". Also, I'm looking for my great-great grandfather, Anthony HALL, who although lived in North Northumberland, married someone called Mary Ann from Castlegate, Berwickshire. Anthony was born in 1812/3 in Lucker, Northumberland, and the family were Presbyterian. He married about 1841/2 (eldest son born 1842/3) and possibly married in Scotland. If anyone can pass on any information on either William or Anthony I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Pat Hall Newcastle upon Tyne

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] STEWART of Ardnamurchan, Argyllshire, Scotland
    2. I am new to research in Argyll, and to this list, and hope someone will help me please. The biggest hole I have to fill in my ancestor chart is for Alexander STEWART who lived in Masterton, New Zealand. Does any lister have connections with him please? He came to NZ, as did his parents Duncan & Anne, from Ardnamurchan, Argyllshire, Scotland, sometime between 1856 and 1868 (records conflict & I have not yet found NZ immigration records). He was born 1845 in Ardnamurchan, & married Phillippa Skeet BELL in Nelson, NZ. His father Duncan b. c1811 was son of John STEWART and Anne (McLACHLAN) who married in Bourblaige, Ardnumurchan c1806. I understand this village is now deserted. His mother Anne b. c1806 was daughter of Donald McPHERSON & Flora (CAMERON). I have details of the descendents of Alexander & Phillippa, and of Philippa's ancestors, but would very much appreciate hearing from anyone with a possible STEWART connection, or who can tell me more about Bourblaige. Many thanks. Jo in Auckland, New Zealand ===== Joanna Broad

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] Gravestone Riddle
    2. I recently visited the graveyard of Larbert Parish Church and noted down the details of some of the Campbell's gravestones The problem I noticed was that the date on the stones did not relate to the names on the stones i.e. the memorial inscription read 1847 David Campbell & Ann Irvine yet I know from the census returns that this couple were still going strong aged 76 on the 1871 census. However on the 1841 census there is a daughter Jean 2yr that does not appear on the 51 census that could mean they bought a plot on the death of there child and put her death date and their own names on the stone as a family plot is this feasible or am I way off line. This is not an isolated incident as I have found others with two names and only one date of which neither parent died on that date. Does anyone know of the custom of burying people in this way in the early 19 century ? Rob Campbell

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] RE:MacGillivray
    2. Hello, I am trying to find the parents of Neill MacGillivray born 1770/80. I have him in Florida 1830. He married a Mary Unknown she was born in North Carolina. They had Elizabeth b. 1812, Alexander b. 1818, and Elizabeth b. 1820. Neil and his family were the early settlers of Florida. They are in history books. They stayed in Florida until they died. I really would like to find out who Neill's family was, and where he was born. Evidently he had some money, because when everyone was getting land grants, he did not ask and paid cash. I have photo's of the home built about 1828. I have all of this line from Neill down. I would just like to fill in the rest. I also have photo's of Alexander and his children. Best Regards, Patty
