    2. Isabella Ashurst
    3. Hi All I have my G Grandfather Patrick Lennox married to Margaret Dougan in Glasgow in 1869. Their wedding certificate shows his parents as Andrew Lennox and Margaret Bell and her parents as Edward Dougan and Mary Dougan. On the 1871 census Patrick is shows as living with Mary Dougan (his mother-in-law) because Margaret died 12 days after giving birth to my Grandfather in 1871. On that census he shows his place of birth as "Ireland", no town given. By the 1881 Census both my grandfather and his brother are shown as boarders in Ardrossan and Patrick is not mentioned. Can anyone help me as where to go next. I have never had to look at Ireland and am completely stumped. Many thanks Isabella Ashurst (nee Lennox) Sydney, Australia __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! I'd try to find out if he did pass away in Glasglow, (see if you can find a list of monumental inscriptions) then check for other possibilities.. i.e. seeing if you can find him in the surrounding area, then expand yoru search to other areas such as the US, Australia, NZ etc. T. 3. Le: The only correct way to trace a line is to start with yourself, then go backwards through your parents, grandparents, etc. Every step of the way, you must obtain proof of the relationship of each person to the other. You don't just find a name similar to yours in Black's Surnames, and purloin it as your ancestor. It's not easy, but it is interesting and fun. Eileen > How can I find documentation to prove a line to Crinan also known as Crinan > the thane. He died in battle with MacBeth avanging the death of his eldest > son Duncan 1045 A.D.

    3. Hi This is my first posting so hop I'm doing it right. I f not, would sks please let me know. I'm relatively new to research, only bit at it for just over year(part time) Here's what I know Catherine and Ronald McDonald(MacDonald), along with their three youngest children Colin 13 Mary 8 Allan 2, came from Inverness Scotland. They arrived in Port Adeliade, Australia on the 19/10/1852 on the ship Medina which departed from Liverpool, England. Their oldest three children Bella(maybe short for Isbella/Elizabeth) Margaret and John remained behind in Scotland. It is believed that they spent the next 10 or so years in Adeliade. They ended up in Victoria in the mid 1860s, family info is he did a bit of gold digging. Mary McDonald m Thomas Clarke 4/6/1868 at Carrisbrook(Vic) and mot of their married life was spent in the western district of Victoria. They had eight children, I'm a descendant of Mary's. According to the shipping records he was ninety years old when he died. His death certificate, however states he was 101 at death. He would'nt have been the first to lower his age to gain entry to Aus then. Ronald d 22/11/1884 and is buried at Drumborg(Dairy)Victoria. Catherine is biried at Clunes(Vic) To my knowledge the older three children stayed in Scotland, family info said they did corresspond but the letters if there were any have been misplaced or lost over the years. I've sort of come to a brick wall and would appreciate some direction to continue . Qs Is there a way I could find her maiden name(don't have a year/place of marriage) Don't know where they may have lived in Inverness How would I try and locate the older three children Ronald's parents, where would I start to Look(don't know there names) I would be most gratful for any help form anyone Kind regards Maureen McKay Swan Hill Victoria Aus ----------------------------------------------------- Click here for Free Video!! http://www.gohip.com/free_video/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, June 17, 2001 7:00 PM Subject: SCOTLAND-GENWEB-D Digest V01 #56

    2. Lovat Fraser
    3. Hello Annette, your post about Strathmiglo reminded me of a schoolfriend who stayed in a section of the village called Cash Feus . Seemingly Johnny Cash shot a Christmas Country and Western T.V. show there in the 60's as he believed that this was where his family came from. The neighbouring village to Strathmiglo is Auchtermuchty which was the home of the Scottish accordion legend Jimmy Shand ( the Bluebell Polka etc ) until his recent death. Jimmy was known affectionately as the Laird o'Muchty . regards, Lovat Fraser, Edinburgh .Scotland. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: Annette Pringle To: [email protected] Sent: Friday, June 15, 2001 10:39 AM Subject: [SCOTS~GEN] 1851 Strathmiglo Census Apology I was so excited to receive the above transcriptions from Drew, that in my haste to share some of the names that had come up on the list recently, I clean forgot to give credit (copyright) to Drew, who has done a magnificent job. He also went to a lot of trouble to copy and paste the information in several e-mails because I could not seem to get the hang of opening the downloaded information. 2. I am helping my husband with genealogical research. He thought all his ancestors were German or English. However we have recently looked at some census records from Iowa. According to these records his great grandmother listed her father's birthplace as Scotland. Her maiden name was Mc Gaffen. I can find very little about this name and what little I can find concerns Ireland. Has anyone else heard of this surname and is it Scottish? Could it be misspelled? Thanks, Kathy
