The UK Surnames List Website (formerly Cumbria Surnames) has recently expanded and now accepts and indeed welcomes surnames interests from Scotland, County Durham, Northumberland, as well as Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Wales and Ireland. If you haven't used the site before, the format is different from most surname listing sites in that it is maintained by the users dynamically - i.e. you are in control of your own entries and can add amend delete them as you wish - this just requires a simple registration so that we know who you are and to allow you editing rights on your entries. The site has been very successful in aiding Cumbria Researchers and these benefits are now being offered to more areas. John--your translation for "Che sara sara" is correct, but the Spanish version of that is "Que sera sera". If I'm not mistaken, the "Che sara sara" is Italian. Nancy
I believe that it is Spanish and translates "What will be will be" John \At 02:40 PM 7/1/01 +1200, genealogy wrote: >Could SKS please transcribe this family motto >"Che Sara Sara" > >Regards > >John > > > >[email protected] > > >==== SCOTLAND-GENWEB Mailing List ==== >Want to leave the list ? >mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe&body=unsubscribe >or >mailto:[email protected]?subject=unsubscribe&body=unsubscribe

Hello Everyone, I have been searching in vain for about 5 years, to find any information, no matter how small on my grandfather, George Watt McCartney, born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 9th May 1888. His parents were Robert ? McCartney and Kate (nee Bruce) McCartney (unknown birth, marriage or death dates). George Watt McCartney arrived in Australia between 1915 and 1920 as a merchant seaman. He deserted his ship on its arrival in Queensland Australia, and he travelled to Sydney where he met my grandmother Kathleen Wasley. They married on 11th March 1920, in Sydney Australia. I would be truly grateful for any information at all about any McCartney records in Scotland at all, as I am stuck without any information at all except that all I have is my grandfathers birth certificate. << have been searching in vain for about 5 years, to find any information, no matter how small on my grandfather, George Watt McCartney, born in Aberdeen, Scotland on 9th May 1888. >> Denise: Have you worked at all with the Church of the LDSaints (www.familysearch.com)? There are other sites out there on Rootsweb.com. Have you joined the McCartney list? Have you joined the Aberdeen list for rootsweb? I didn't realize how many sites rootsweb had until I went searching for someone else. A LOT! Have you tried the Google search engine? (www.Google.com) With the information and dates, have you gone directly to Scotland's records and archives. Genealogy is frustrating, and the brick walls many. The nice part about all of it, is the helpful people I have met along the way. Pam
Regarding query from Patsy Frank seeking info on Methven-Robertson: familysearch.com shows the parents of Christian Methvin (born 2 Nov. 1793) in Leslie, Fife, Scot. to be John Methven and Isabel Mitchell. Hope this helps. J.Musser ([email protected])
