    2. Dear Pat, I'm researching the GRAHAM's from Ayrshire, Lanarkshire, S of Glasgow. In your search, are you finding any details about GRAHAM lineage? Robert "one of nine", b est 1795-1800, m est 1820 to a Jennie _____ in Ayrshire. Their youngest of nine, James B., was b NOV 1834 in Ayshire, and R & J emigrated from Ayrshire in 1846. NOTE: I was in Newcastle and Sydney Australia, two years ago. One of the 'hosts' was in Melbourne the week before, with family "on a holiday"...maybe next time! Your reqion in Scotland is an exact match...I do not have Jennie's maiden name. These 'puzzle pieces' are so amazing! This is quite a process. Looking forward to your next updates. Sheila

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] AITKEN family
    2. Hi, I'm searching for any information on AITKEN families around the Borders. My g-g-g-grandfather was James AITKEN and he lived in Berwick around 1820. His occupation was "soldier" so he may have moved around a bit or come from another part of Scotland. He had a daughter, Mary Ann AITKEN, who was born at Castlegate, Berwick, around 1820. She married Anthony HALL, from Lucker/Lowick, Northumberland, on 27th January 1842, in South Shields, but as I have just found this information out I don't know if the family moved there or she moved there to get married as Anthony HALL had a bakers shop in Sunderland. Any help would be most appreciated. Pat Hall Newcastle upon Tyne

    1. [SCOTS~GEN] JOHNSON-SNEDDEN INTERESTS
    2. Kim Robinson
    3. Hi Everyone I am currently trying to trace the Johnson-Snedden line of family that lived in the Hunter Valley region of NSW, Australia. I have the marriage certificate for Robert Snedden and Eliza Johnson - married in West Maitland, NSW in 1889. Robert was the son of John Snedden (deceased in 1889) and Janet Robinson. Eliza, the daughter of Charles Johnston and May Ann Brown. The marriage certificate states that Robert was from Farmbrae and Eliza from Greenhill. While playing around on the LDS site I found the birth record for Eliza and it showed that she was born in 1870 in Shotts, Lanark, Scotland. I was also able to find her siblings. I have since searched the net looking for references to Lanarkshire to see if I could find Farmbrae or Greenhill in any maps. I think I have found Greenhill - although it is spelt Greenhills and is between Newlandsmuir and Whitehills. Would this be what I am looking for? I was unable to find Farmbrae and would appreciate any assistance. The marriage certificate states that both Robert Snedden and Charles Johnston's were miners - so seems to fit with the area. I am interested in recommendations on where to find information on the area and why/how they migrated to Australia. I assume that there must have been some incentive - ie was cheap. If you could also advise on the best person/place to contact in regards to finding additional info on the Snedden's, Johnston's, Brown's and Robinson's. 2. According to an 1851 census, an individual I'm researching was listed as being born in Renfrew, Barrheaux. Was Barrheaux the name of a town in Renfrewshire during the 1850's.? Would it have been part of another town or was it renamed? I cannot find any information on it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. Debby Thomson Sprechman

    3. I have been researching the Neville line. From Ralph Neville who married Joan Beaufort as his second wife to Crinan mac Duncan his 8th greatgrandfather. It is said that the Dunbar's are descended from these family members. My line comes in through the Wyatts. Thomas the Poet Wiatt married Elizabeth Brooke in 1520. Elizabeth's paternal grandmother was Margaret Neville whose father was Edward Neville a descedndant of Crinan or Grimus mac Duncan. 1. [SCOTS~GEN] James McLaren
    2. hello, in my quest to research my McLaren relatives, i have come across a james mclaren, born sept. 9, 1779 in callander, perthshire, scotland. he married mary mcnabb 1819 in chatham, ontario, canada. she was 23 and he was 40. i strongly suspect that mary was not his first wife. i dont care so much about the previous wife/ves names, mostly i am trying to find any childrens' names that survived the marriage. does this james fit with anyone else out there? i went to LDS to look at their scottish church records. my james is there, father alexander and mother betty fergusson. there was no way to quickly connect him to the huge list of james mclaren marriages... thanks, heidi ford

    3. Hello to all, I have been trying without much luck to locate the ancestry of two particular individuals and am hoping that someone on this list can assist me: I have a Janet STRAITON/STRATTON, married Thomas Barclay of Mathers c. 1578. All I have is that her family was referred to as "Straitton or Stratton of Lauristoun". That may be in either Kincardinshire or in Angus. In any event, I certainly would like a lead on her parents. My second problem has to do with a Barbra LOGIE, said to have been the dau. of _______Logie, Laird of Logie. I think she was b.c. 1520 in or near Innes, in Moray. What I do know for certain is that she married Alexander Gordon, bishop of Galloway, sometime just before 1544. Any and all help gratefully accepted. Regards to all,
