    2. chad1414
    3. Hi! My gr-gr-gr-Grandfather Donald Robertson married Janet McLean in Logierait, Perth in 1815. She was from Dull, Perth. Donald as far as I can tell was from Logierait. From scant records I found out they had the folowing children: James 1816, Alexr. 1818, Janet-1820, John-1822, Donald-1824, Thomas-1826, Elizabeth-1829 and Charles my Gr-gr-Grandfather About 1835. I am not sure as I can not find his birth date. Janet McLean died 1872 in Perth, Perth. Donald was Episcopalian and I believe that is why I am having a hard time finding any information on his family. Charles died in Glasgow in 1879. He married Janet West. His sister Elizabeth married John Galletly a baker and lived in Perth, Perth. If anyone has any information on anyone in this family I would love to hear from you. I do not know when Donald was born, died or who his parents were. It has stymied my investigations. Sincerely; Nancy Harrington

    3. I found out that Herds Creek is in Moore County North Carolina I had two branches from a collateral line settle there. All of there children were born there in Moore County. Samuel's were all born there, and Stephenson's last two Carraway, and Wyatt were the only ones born in South Carolina. Their brother Richard Wyatt Oates I think also settled there before going to Georgia. He went to Georgia after the American Revolution. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 20, 2001 10:21 PM Subject: [SCOTS~GEN] RE:Oats Jacob, I have this I do not know if it will help. 3. Yes I am on both. I have traced the line to North Carolina circa 1694, and some said he was in Virginia in the 1670's. There was a Craig Oats in Warwick County in 1637. One source I had been reading said the Oates name appeared through out Scots History. There are two possible counties he might have been in during the time of Bacon's Rebellion and that is York and Warwick. I have posted a messages to both and have not heard from the York List. He left Virginia to keep from being hung, he supposedly was an acquaintance of Col. Nathaniel Bacon. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janelle" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 20, 2001 11:02 PM Subject: Re: [SCOTS~GEN] RE:Oats Hi, Did you try www.rootsweb.com under Mailing Lists and Surnames "O" to see whether there is an Oats/Oates Mailing List? 3. Interesting discussion on Iona. My husband and I were lucky enough to meet the Lord McCleod on a terrible rainy day while visiting Iona as tourists. He was a very old man at the time and the visitors added up to about 20 people, not counting the sheep wandering the island. He stood in front of the little church and told us about Iona and its past and the people buried there. I understood that he was the person who fought for restoring that area and took great pride in what he did. Kate __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 3. While there is a Community of Faith which occupies the site of the original Columban Monastic site, it would not claim to have anything more than a most tenuous connection with St Columba. As you will see from its web site, the Iona Community is an ecumenical body of clergy and lay people who while living apart from community seek to keep a number of corporate disciplines. The Iona Community - (founded 1938 by George MacLeod) is most definitely non Monastic The Columban Community, which would have been a collection of huts around the Church (or more than one Church) was abandoned in favour of Dunkeld in Scotland and/or Kells in Ireland at the height of the Viking raids. There may have been a number of solitary continuing religious. It is however generally accepted that there was no permanent religious community on Iona until the 12th Century when first of all an Nunnery, and then a Monastery were built. Both of these buildings fell into disrepair and the Communities were retired after the Scottish Reformation. (from 1560). The Abbey and Cathedral Church was rebuilt by contract labour in the early years of the 20th Century while the Monastic buildings were restored between 1938 and 1965 mainly by voluntary work. We now are searching for leads to Scotland, Ireland, and England. The first names are: Alexander, Joseph, William, Johannes, Thomas, Jesse, Michael, and Hugh. If anyone is researching these names, or knows of any information we would appreciate it. Please post a message for us, as we have hit a brick wall with these names. 3. Hi Marilyn, My Aitkens were all orchadists or gardeners for two or three generations. Anyway what I have is - David Aitken married Agnes Blythe 1798 in Lower Largo, Fife. I have three children for them. Alexander, James & Ann. I did have a baptism for David which gave a possible link to Lord Beaverbrook (which from family lore there is a link) but from finding a more direct descendent of the Lord appears to be incorrect. Still hunting. James born 1802 in Largo, Fife married Ann McKay in 1827 in Lasswade, Midlothian. They had nine children in Berwick, Midlothian, Kirkcudbrightshire, & Lanark. The family finally settling in Renfrew until ofcourse they descided to move on to Australia. They came separately (except James came in 1867, with the youngest two children after Ann died in 1865) The only one that did not arrive in Australia was David and he is a mistery, but family lore has him in Penang. The childrens names were David, John Gibson, Alexander, Daniel, James, William Smith, Ann and Henry Blythe. Any connection?? Regards Pat Melbourne, Aust.
