Hello List, Would someone be kind enough to look up the 1851 and 1861 census for a McAlpine family. My great grandmother's name was Margaret Stewart McAlpine she was born in 1851 in Stranraer, Wigtonshire, Scotland. She or her family moved to New Zealand as she married John Veitch in Dunedin, NZ on 16 April 1872. Thank you Kindest Regards Lori Adkins Colorado, USA
Hello Sandra, Thanks so much for doing this look up. Was this the only family with an Elizabeth as a daughter and were all the family born in Ireland or just the Father? Thanks again Lori ----- Original Message ----- From: SOMERS<mailto:[email protected]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, August 14, 2008 10:36 PM Subject: Re: [SCOTLAND] Census lookup for McAlpine please Hi Lori Is this your family? 1851 Scotland Census Parish No: 891 Civil Parish: Leswalt County: Wigtownshire Address: Clayhole ED 6a Household: 238 Line 16 Thos Mc Alpin note...no 'e' aged 30 b.Ireland Occ: Weaver Magdalane McAlpin aged 20 Jas Heto McAlpin aged 7 Margt McAlpin aged 1 ___________________________________ 1861 Scotland Census Registration No: 899 Civil Parish: Leswalt Registration district: Stranraer Civil Parish: Leswalt Town: Stranraer County: Wigtownshire Address 2 Sheuchan Close Ed: 8 Household: 80 Line: 5 Thos McAlpin aged 40 Mary H McAlpin aged 38 (alternative name for Magdalane) James Henry McAlpin aged 17 Madline McAlpin aged 14 (This may well be daughter Magdalane - not sure where she was on the 1851 Census. Could not find her!) Note that his name reverts to James Henry McAlpin in 1861 Census. Could this be a transcription error? There seem to be plenty on this Census. Original documents are not available for sighting unfortunately so could not check for you. There was another family with a daughter Margaret in Wigtownshire but she was not born until 1857.
