Leigh, Check with your local reference library (with a genealogy section) for 'A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada Before Confederation' - it's 3 volumes, and the editor is Donald Whyte, published by the Ontario Genealogical Society. You'll need to check all 3 volumes since volumes 2 and 3 add names and make corrections to the earlier volumes but if you find your guy, you'll get the year & place of immigration AND Jennett's maiden name, names of some or all of the kids, and most likely the parish of origin, which is very helpful for checking the Scottish records. BTW, there's also a Scots in Canada list.
