    2. Wayne Hannay
    3. The MacDonalds or MacIans of Ardnamurchan were founded there, in Robert Bruce`s time, by Ian a son of the Angus Mor mac Donald. In 1495 they were hosts at Mingary to James lV, and assisted him against rebellious chiefs. But early in the 17th century they suffered persecution with the rest of the Clan Donald South; and a number of the clan having been goaded into an act of piracy, this was unjustly remembered against their innocent Glencoe namesakes in 1692. The following are all variations from the clan name MacIan: JOHNSON JOHNSTONE KEAN KEENE MACIAN MACKAIN MACKANE MACKEAN MACKEAND -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Scottish Surnames some showing Clan or Sept connection and approximate District or Century earliest known in Scotland.
