    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GARDINER/HERRIMAN Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/EgC.2ACE/9700.1 Message Board Post: Hi Barry I'm in Adelaide, South Australia. For about 8 years now I've been doing free research for people all over the world who are looking for information about their ancestors who came here in the 1800's. I saw your request a few days ago, and as I went to the library on Friday, I included your request with the pile of others which I researched. I managed to find the following:- ARRIVAL FROM OVERSEAS. James Gardiner, labourer from Co. Galway IRELAND aged 18yrs, and Patrick Gardiner, labouere from Co. Galway IRELAND aged 32years single both arrived in South Australia 29th April 1858 aboard the "Storm Cloud" which sailed from Plymouth. MARRIAGE. James Gardiner, aged 26yrs, single, son of Thomas Gardiner married 2nd September 18764 to Elizabeth Herraman, aged 19yrs, single, daughter of James Herraman. Place of marriage not recorded. North adelaide, District Adelaide. reference b100 p682. (the place not recorded means the actual building, church etc. where the ceremony took place) CHILDREN BORN TO JAMES GARDINER 7 ELIZABETH HERRAMAN. 1. Alice May 24/1/79 North Adelaide Dis. Adelaide ref b214 p341 2. Edith Mary 4/12/74 Lower North Adelaide Dis. Adelaide ref b145 p37. (Mother's name is recorded on the birth registration as Elizabeth Ann Herraman) 3. Frederick William 5/10/90 at North adelaide District Adelaide ref b467 p455 4. George Henry 24/5/85 North Adelaide Dis. Adelaide ref b352 p281 5. Harriet Ethel 22/12/88 Hackney District Norwood. b429 p347 6. James Alexander 29/12/82 North Adelaide Dis. Adelaide ref b296 p388 (mother's surname spelt Herrimann) 7. Margaret Eliza 16/1/81 North adelaide Dis. Adelaide ref b253 p423. DEATH. Edith Mary aged 6 years of North Adelaide District Adelaide, daughter of James Alexander Gardiner District Adelaide, died 5/2/1881. Ref. b108 p290 Our death records in S.Aus. go from 1842-1915, and there is no death record for James or Elizabeth up to that time. Our marriage records here go from 1842-1937, so I would be quite happy to look for marriages for the children of James & Elizabeth if you are interested. Our birth records go from 1842-1906. I would be happy to look for births of children born to James & Elizabeth's children providing they occur no later than 1906. I hope the discovery that your people came from Ireland rather than Scotland did not "throw you" too much. I'm happy putting my money on both sides - my ggrandfather came from Co. Tipperary, Ireland, and on the othre side of the family my ggrandfather came from Scotland. Please feel free to get back to me if there is anything else (including other family/s) that you would like me to have a look at for you. I try to get into the Adelaide library one day a week, but as my husband and I are Salvation Army Chaplains in one of our residential facilities with 50 aged people, every one of whom have some degree of dementia, sometimes our "free" time isn't quite as "free" as would like, but as researching for others is my favourite hobby, I'd be more than happy to help. Hoping the above is of some help. Regards Heather in a cool, sunny day in Adelaide, South Australia.
