Surnames: Waddell, Smith Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/9948.1 Message Board Post: The IGI on www.familysearch.org doesn't have a Henry WADDELL born in the years 1800-1810. However, there are a few David WADDELLs born in this period. This doesn't prove that there wasn't a Henry WADDELL born then - the IGI is not a complete index of all births. The earliest useful census was taken in 1841. You could try a search of the various name indexes (all partial) to this census. The Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society have an index in preparation to the 1841 census for Glasgow - see http://www.gwsfhs.org.uk/. There were many WADDELL families in the Monkland parishes of Lanarkshire (near Glasgow). It seems strange that he took his wife's maiden name. If he followed the Scottish naming conventions, his first born son will be named after the child's paternal grandfather; the first born daughter after her maternal grandmother; etc. Their names could ba a clue for you to use to find Henry's parents back in Scotland. Good luck
