He may have gone to Canada with the 17th Dragoons as a Joseph Bremner of 17th Dragoons received 100 acres of land abt 1836 in Chatham Co. Quebec. This Joseph may be the father or grandfather of my John Bremner b 1834-1837 in Quebec. John's first da was named Mary Jane and third son was Joseph. Next door to Joseph was a John Simpson age 40, b Ireland, Presbyterian, a shoemaker and wife Jane. Was he possibly a brother of Mary Bremner? John Bremner was a shoemaker in 1871 and 1881 census.
