Dear List I have just joined the list in the hope of tracing the ancestors of my grandfather Henry Melville Smith (born in India in 1863). I have been searching for over three years via the India list, the British Library and various other sources and am now hoping someone out there may be able to help. His father was CHARLES SMITH and all I know about him is that he had Scottish ancestry and was related to JOHN BUCHAN the author, either directly or by marriage, so I have tried to find some possible common ancestry. If anyone out there has a SMITH in their tree together with either a HENDERSON, a MASTERTON, a WATSON or a BUCHAN, then please would they get in touch off line. Thanks for your help.
