Sandair (Sr), published in 1923. The Pate family is mentioned on pages 201 to 204 The American Pate family can trace its roots back to the British Isles, but unable to tie to specific family lines there. We were a prominent family in early colonial Virginia, with the first arrival c. 1636. This family was related to a London merchant, Edward Pate. This book supposedly has information on the background of the Pates, origin of the name, and where they came from and traveled to from 1148 to early 1900s.
