Situation being, I have a silver tankard shaped trophy which is engraved as follows: HIGHLAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION INVERNESS MEETING 1870 ALL COMERS SMALL BORE PRIZE Gained by - James C. Hozier A researcher at the Inverness Library sent me a copy of an article from the Inverness Advertiser [23/9/1870] written about the competition. It lists names of the competitors, including a Colonel Hozier-Lanark, & a James C Hozier-Oxford University Club. Another researcher said she thought he might be : James Henry Cecil Hozier : 2nd Baron Newlands who was born at Tannochside House, Lanarkshire in 1851 & died 1929. Does any of this make any sense to you, & do you think this trophy is connected to this family? thanks, Gillian
