An ancestor’s birth register from Peebles, Peebles states: “Peebles 3th August 1783 Willm Rubie son to Willm Rubie servt to Andw Robb tenant in the Fowlage and Isobel Tait his spouse was baptized by the Rev Willm Dagliesh Minst of the Gofpel in Peebles witnefses John Minto weaver and Alexr Kerr taylor there – the child born on the 2d July 1783” I know that the “Rubie” should be Ruickbie. My question is this – what is “the Fowlage”. I have studied the 1821 map of Peebles drawn by John Tompson, and available at the NLS website and can see an area tagged as “Feulage” north of Peebles just beyond Winkstone. Are these the same? And what is it? Or if not the same – still what is “the Fowlage”? Who was Andrew Robb? Plus while I’m here I’d love to hear any info anyone has on anything to do with the William Rubie(s) (RUICKBIE sic) or Isobel Tait mentioned above. I strive to identify the parents of the elder William – the missing link I need. Thanks again for your interest, LarryR, in Canada
