I have recors showing the last name spelled SOMMERVILLE, SOMERVILLE and SUMMERVILLE. I know he was born in Scotland abt 1812. Family info says he came to the USasa young man (in younger years). The U.S. federal census for 1850 shows John age 37, his wife Janet age 36 and 5 kids in Oconomowoc, Waukesha, Wisconsin. That same census shos the first 4 children were born in new York. Mary, Agnes,John and William. John senior later married a Dora Sophia Zobler and had a bunch of kids with her. John lived in New York, Wisconcin, Michigan and ended up in Nebraska. He died in Riverdale, Nebraska in 1894.If any of this sounds familiar, drop me a note.
