    3. Looking for details on an Elizabeth GORDON daughter of Thomas GORDON born circa 1831. My Gt Gt Grandfather George GALLOWAY married Agnes BARCLAY/BARCLEY in in 1837 in Strathmiglo and had children Kinross (all baptised in Easter Balgedie. The whole family moved to South Wales (the area we now call the Rhondda) in 1854, where George was a Farm Bailiff. Unfortunately Agnes died in 1859. George remarried in 1861 an Elizabeth GORDON in the Parish Church of Ystradyfodwg (Rhondda). The marriage certificate shows them both signing their names and at the time of the marriage Elizabeth was living in a Scottish Parish. The parish name is difficult to work out. It looks more like Ousell but I think it might be Orwell, because George had links to Orwell. Elizabeth is shown as 30 on the marriage cert. and a Widow. Her father is shown as Thomas GORDON (weaver). I am therefore presuming that GORDON is her maiden name, but it is still possible that the registrar got it wrong. George lied on the marriage cert. claiming to be 40 when he was much nearer 50. George's father was Stewart GALLOWAY (Shoemaker) If she was in Scotland whilst he lived in Wales I can only presume that he "sent" for a wife. This has happened elsewhere in the family. Usually with sisters though. So I question of GORDON is her maiden name but her father is shown as Thomas GORDON. If anyone knows of a Thomas GORDON (weaver) or Thomas BARCLAY. Based on the daughter Elizabeth being born circa 1831 I am guessing Thomas would be born about 1800 (give or take 15 years - George Barclay was nearly 70 when his last child was born!) I would love to hear from you. Regards Kerry
