    1. Re: [SCOTLAND] Scottish deaths pre 1855
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: GordonPertJohnson Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21703.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have now looked at that page, and they have confirmed my own experience: seldom more than a name and date; though occasionally you can get lucky. I recall an entry saying "killed by the bursting of a gun", and another where a child fell into a well and was drowned; and another where blasting operations at a quarry sent a boulder flying through the air, landing on a man and killing him! There was also an entry for a body found in the river, assumed to have been there for some days: an addendum mentioned a woman in a neighbouring parish who had fallen into the river and disappeared, so it was assumed that the body was her. However, the worst is also found:In Caithness where I now live, only one parish has ANY death records at all, and that one is not good either! All the best. Gordon.
