In message <[email protected]>, [email protected] writes Hi Christine, A wonderful resource is GENUKI (Genealogy UK and Ireland): http://www.genuki.org.uk/ - which gives general guidelines where to find resources about genealogy in the UK. The site is laid out in a heiarchical manner so you can go from UK to Scotland and from Scotland to any county in Scotland very easily. The mailing lists, such as this one, on Rootsweb are bountiful there's one for (I am sure) for every county in Scotland. I subscribe to at least four of them. You can find them all listed at: http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/SCT/ You will find the genealogy community is almost always helpful. They will answer what they can! The point being there may be a bonus for them if they do, as they may find a distant relative lurking out there! I'd encourage your senior citizens to join the county related groups, if they know which part of Scotland their ancestors were from, as well as this general Scotland group. Depending on the relative (population) size of the county they will get a better and more (local) knowledgable response. I am sure you are already aware of the Scotlandspeople's web-site http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ - which is, without doubt, the best Scottish genealogical resource on the web, but although I personally believe its' costs are relatively low, I know I have already spent a lot money over the years. It's cheaper than golf and fishing (and my wife even tells me so :) ) Happy (ancetor) hunting to all of your group!
