I will follow through as soon as I am able. The Caley was originally The Caledonian Asylum (School) set up by Sir Walter Scott and others early in the 19th Century for the sons of Scottish servicemen and sons of poor Scots living in London. My GG Grandfather, Robert MacDonald (b 1828, Middlesex) was admitted in 1835 after his father (David) died at an age of about 75 leaving a family (wife and 3 sons)without any financial support. The Asylum still exists in the form of The Royal Caledonian Schools Trust and has extensive records back to its earliest days. I struck it rich when I found Robert there in the 1841 census. Thanks again for your help, Jim Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
