I am descended from Turners on my maternal grandmother's side and have in my possession a manuscript notebook of descendants of Duncan Turner from 1649. For the first four generations just my direct line appears which is Duncan Turner (b1649) - John Turner (b?) - Coll Turner - (b 1715) - Duncan Turner (b1746). From that generation through to the 19th century more detail appears. The Alexander you refer to was the son of the Duncan Turner (b1746-d1834) who was married to Lucy Leitch and they had 13 children. The first seven children were born at Mainepark or Mainspark, Row (Rhu) in the period 1775-1787. The succeeding six children were born at Edintaggart, Luss. The 3rd child was called Coll (1779-1796)so died young but in 1797 their 11th child was also called Coll (1797-1838). He married Catherine Mitchell in 1835. My direct ancestor was John Turner (1783-1834)who was their 5th child and had been married to a Catherine Mitchell so maybe Coll married his widow. This John may be the John you refer to but I do not have the name Knox in the notebook. The 8th child was William (1789-1840). He had two children the 2nd of whom was called William (1831-1868) The latter drowned off Penzance in 1868. I believe that the ship was called the Garonne rather than the Caronne. The 13th child was Alexander (1802-1868). He also drowned off Penzance. I hope that this will be of help to you even if it is 8 years late.
