Hello, I've been trying to find out more about my husband's grandmother for several years. This week I have received new information from several sources, and I'd like to find out more about the people I'm hearing about. My husband's family knew the grandmother as having been born Annie Mary Magdalene McLAUGHLIN b~1890 in either Ireland or England. She spent some part of her childhood in a Convent in England. And, her father had been born in England and her mother in Ireland. She came to the US in ~1908 and married in Waltham, MA, USA, ~1911, and she and James GAVIN lived in Cambridge, MA, with their children. When I posted a query on the Ireland List, I received responses with very good census information, etc. I have heard that the grandmother was probably born in 1890 in London, England, and her name was probably Annie McLOUGHLIN. She seems to have been the daughter of John James McLOUGHLIN and Jessie Caroline WAGNER, and they married in London in 1873. They seem to have had 6 daughters, Eleanor, Catherine, Jessie, Louisa, Sophia, and Annie. John seems to have died in 1890 in London, the year Annie was born. The 1891 census showed 3 of the daughters in the "Convent of the Sacred Heart" in London, Catherine, Louisa, and Sophia. I don't know what happened to 2 of the daughters and Annie was an infant. In 1899, the widow, Mrs. Jessie McLOUGHLIN remarried to Samuel LUSCOMBE, and they were living in London in 1901 with her 4 daughters, Catherine, Louisa, Sophie, and Annie. The 1881 census has John and Jessie McLOUGHLIN, 25, in London with 3 daughters, and it says they John was born in Scotland. (And Jessie, also??) And, I was wondering if anyone is researching John's McLOUGHLIN family in Scotland in the early 1800's. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) P.S. I received the death record for Mrs. Annie (McLOUGHLIN) GAVIN this week. She died of a heart attack in 1949, and there was only limited information on her parents, possibly because her adult children did not know about the family she came from. The record said her father was (unknown) McLAUGHLIN and her mother was (unknown) McDERMOTT, both born in Ireland. I don't know whether the adult children just didn't know, or whether Annie's mother had married 3 times, instead of 2.
