This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JSpeed63 Surnames: HORDON,(HOWDEN?) Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/21641/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Sorry part of a sentence in my previous post was only typed 1/2 way through what I wanted to complete that sentence before I went on to the next. What I meant to ask was in the heavy (to my American ears) Scot's accent would Howden sound similar to HORDON to English/American ears? This is part of my brickwall and I thought, when I saw the 1901 Census for Wingate, England that the name of the Inn where GGF is listed as Innkeeper, that perhaps, the "R" and the "W" are/were sort of interchangeable when it came to the accents. (It was my GGF not my GF that was the innkeeper, but my GF still had a heavy Scot's brogue up until the day he died. I loved it, personally) Thanks Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
