    1. Re: [SCOTLAND] Thomas Maxwell 1666-Kirkconnell, Scotland
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JohnHilary3 Surnames: Maxwell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/8849.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There are a couple of other places called Kirkconnell in the "Maxwell" area of Scotland. One is South of Dumfries, on the opposite bank to Caerlaverock Castle, the seat of the Chief of the Maxwells since the 13th century or before. I was fascinated to read that your family line from Thomas Maxwell 1666 came to America via Ireland. Our Maxwell line is descended from a Maxwell who came from that area of Scotland to fight in Ireland for King James against King William. Thomas is a strong family name. I wonder if there are any overlaps? How early did your ancestor arrive in America? We know that Thomas Maxwell (born 1853) and his brother, Patrick Maxwell (born 1855) went together to New York sometime before the 1880 census.
