I've got the McMaken surname a bit back in my tree for a few generations, but I'm at a loss as to whether its Scottish or Irish. The farthest back I've been able to trace it was a John McMaken born in Ireland about 1697. He later came to America, and married an Elizabeth Jordan - who was born in Scotland about 1700. Not sure when they married, or where. I know bits and pieces on their lives moving forward, but I can't find anything on their parents. The family written record I have states the family came from Scotland to America in the early 1600s, but as I said, John was born in Ireland.
