Hello I'm researching the family of JAMES HOPE of Tasmania, Australia. James was born 24 June 1810 possibly in Scotland. He would have arrived in Australia around 1828-1836. He had a son born in Tasmania, JAMES SOMERVILLE HOPE who returned to Scotland and obtained his medical degree c1860/1862 at Edinburgh University, he returned to Tasmania after completing his degree. Paperwork I have come across states that James Somerville Hope was "supposedly grandson of the 4th Earl of Hopetoun". I've been unable as yet to link the Hopetoun family with my Hopes, so this may have been incorrect. Another son CHARLES ALEXANDER HOPE also born in Tasmania, won the Tasmanian Scholarship. Charles later became Rector at Taverham, Norwich, England and remained there. I would dearly love to hear from anyone researching James' family, or if any of the information sounds familiar.
