Scotlandspeople.gov.uk promise indexes for 1841, 1851, 1861 and 1871. Their bulletin states that they now have a 'thin' index to 1871 and so it appears that 1871 will be the next one to go on-line. There are various published indexes to parishes or counties for 1861 for parts of Scotland, but not the whole of Scotland. One of the largest indexes is the 1861 Census index to Lanarkshire (including Glasgow) published by the Glasgow and West of Scotland Family History Society. The East Ayrshire FHS publish an index to the 1861 Census for Ayrshire. Both of these are on CD. Try them - these counties are on the west side of Scotland, and many Irish emigrants will be listed.
