    1. McAnally Surname from Scotland
    2. The McAnally/McAnelly surname has two well documented family histories back to their original immigrant and at least five to six family histories that dead end in the mid to late 1700. We are attempting to see if there are connections between these families and will they connect to linages in Scotland and Ireland. The DNA project has six participant to date, four have their test results and two are in process. Of the four results none of the men are related to each other. The family history "The McAnally Family in America" by James L. McAnally published in 1976 chronicles the descendants of his original immigrant (Charles McAnally b. 1685 Scotland) . The family lore implies that Charles was kidnaped and placed on a boat to America as a youth and started life here in Pennsylvania. The DNA results for this line on the author himself indicates he has a haplogroup designation of I1c. We are presently trying to get some distant cousins to join the project to establish a standard for this linage. The family history "The John McAnelly Family" by Gaylon S. McAnelly is a hardback book of 269 pages describes the life and descendants of John and Mary Clark McAnelly who were married 1790 in county Antrim, Ireland and subsequently migrated to the United States in 1792. This history published in 1977 implies that the original McAnelly family came from Scotland and that there is a connection between John McAnelly and a Dr. Adam Clarke a noted Methodist writer. The author searched for further connections to Scotland but was not able to develop any definite information but implicates connections to MacLeans of Mull, McKracken, McReady via the wife of John McAnelly, Mary Clark. The participant from this linage in the DNA project is a R1b haplogroup. We welcome any and all variant names McNally, McAnnally, McAnully, etc to this project as each of the six participants have seen their own ancestors referred to and some branches still using these variant names. And really who is to say which is original and which is variant. John (Jack) McAnally
