I recently found out that his middle name was Robertson and searching everywhere I can to get more info. on him and his family. Have checked the OPRs with no luck as I don't have a definate date of birth for him. He emigrated to Canada in 1835 with his wife & two daughters. Also found a Lieutenant Alexander Urquhart on same ship who may have been his father as also found an Alexander Urquhart living with him in the 1861 census. And John named his first son Alexander and his second son John. So both of these names fit what you explained. Also the first daughter fits.......not sure about the second daughter. Have found an Alexander Urquhart married to Betty Robertson, but they only have daughters listed........."ugh"! And additional advice would really be appreciated. But don't want all my "confusion" to rub off onto you.....lol Patsy

    3. Hello Patsy. I found in my family,my Great Grandfather had a midle name like yours. For in those times I have been told that if there was a child born out of weddlock. They would give the real father his second name .Like this was mine Wooliston Carter Levers . Wooliston was a given name,Carter the real fathers name, and Levers his mothers name. What I was told was if the real father and Mother married, they would just drop the Levers and he his last name would be Carter. Hope this might help you,Don Levirs in Canada. ----- Original Message ----- From: <plethgo@comcast.net> To: <SCOTLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 11:41 AM Subject: [SCOTLAND] Re: How did the Scots name their children????? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/10117.1.1.1.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Gee, how I wish I knew if he was first son!!!!!
