I see Glasgow as the birthplace in the Census above for James. Glasgow at that time could be Lanark or Renfrew. ;) Larry
Hi Larry I already had this information before I posted my initial query. I started at the 1881 census in Sheffield which shows my g-grandfather James Lewis Henderson and worked back. I don't give much credence to the place of birth for James Snr - it also states his wife was born in Glasgow and she wasn't, she was born in Smailholm, Roxburgh. What I'm trying to find is some record of who James Snr's family was. Are the David Henderson and Mary Ann Ward named on his marriage cert the same couple as the couple of that name living in Edinburgh in the early 1860s?
