I`m looking for any more information on or help as to how I can find more about my great great grandmother Janet Anderson Paterson. When looking up her marriage certificate I discovered that she was "adopted". Her parents were listed as "unknown". (The couple who adopted her were John Paterson b.1816 and Catherine Mackay b.1819. I realise that adoption only became legal in Scotland in about the 1930s so no records would have been made.) Looking at the census` I discovered that she was living with Mr and Mrs Paterson from at least the age of 5, in Glasgow. This is where I have hit a brick wall, I can`t find any birth certificates for her as I`m not sure what name to enter. Could Anderson possibly be her birth surname as Paterson was the name of her adopted parents? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have only recently started my family history!
