Hello there Kerry Is it possible to give us his name? With an unusual name, there is a possibility that it links in some way to his birth family. If you were adopting a child and wanted to keep that secret, surely you would give the child an ordinary name? I am helping a friend research her father's tree/birth (he died in 1964). My research very quickly ran aground as it became evident his 'parents' were not his birth parents - his name is unusual / unique in fact and does not appear in the index and his 'parents' have no children registered as born to either of them - he had no siblings and was born when they had been married for 13 years without offspring - we have no idea if he knew this or not. Using the 1939 census I know when he believed his date of birth to be (30 April 1908) and I know where he was born (as acurately as we ever can know in this case!) - Dundee. The Scotlands People site/ centre cant let me search by date - does anyone know if there is any way to access the original registers on fiche etc which will be in date order and I can then work my way through all the baby boys born that day in the 5(?) Dundee registration districts to see if we can find an unidentified baby! I have tried to search for the family names in case there is an unmarried aunt etc but there are no babies with the right surnames born around then. Any suggestions what to try next? thanks, Kerry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
