The Baillie line(s) in Scotland are not very numerous, and there is some controversy about the origin of the name. Some historians claim the name is derived from the discredited Balliol line (puppet kings of scotland under Edward I). However, I believe the name is simply the Gaelic version of the Bailey name, and that they came to Scotland from Ireland during the Bruce's war to restore independence from England.
