Afterward there were many Scots sent to various locales around the world to purge the rebels. This was the time when even clan tartans were outlawed. This was also during the end period of the highland clearances when clan members were ejected from ancestoral homelands by greedy clan chiefs so they could use the land to raise sheep. The conditions for the ejected clan members was appalling as they had no means of support, and famine conditions existed for many.
