(Variations McQuian, McQuine, McQueen, etc.) Anyone with ** ANY LEADS OR INFORMATION ** as to Alexander McQuain and our Scottish heritage, please contact me privately at bambam@mcquain.com with the title McQUAIN FAMILY in the subject line. If you know where he may look for info (churches, universities, historical societies, parish records) PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP! I am a direct descendant of Alexander McQuain who immigrated to the USA from Scotland c. 1752 prior to the Revolutionary War and settled in Pendleton Co., WV, USA. He came as an indentured servant to the Bodkin (Botkin, Boytin) family and married the daughter Mary Bodkin. They had about 11 children. Alexander possibly studied religion/priesthood at the University of Edinburgh. (This is a possible lead from LDS records another family member did.) There may have been 2 other Alexander's at the university at the same time, studying the same, or it could all have be the same person. Possibly Alexander was from Edinburgh (Midlothian), the Isle of Skye, or I have seen a post here on Ancestory.com boards alluding to Inverness in the Highlands as well. Possibly Alexander's father was Duncan or Malcolm. (That seems to stick in my mind from info received 35 years ago from a McQuain relative.) My brother will be in Edinburgh and will also be at Isle of Skye and traveling to other Scottish regions. Don't be shy to suggest a lead as to where he might look. It's not too often we can take advantage of someone actually being in the homeland. Please share this info with other McQuain researchers at Ancestory.com and similar geneology websites. I do have my direct line back to Alexander, and a few other tangents, and family photos. I'm happy to provide it to anyone when I have the time to dig it out. It's been a while since I could devote proper time to research but I'm always trying!
