    1. [SCOTLAND] Bible Marriage Date Does Not Match OPR Dates

However, the records in OPR found on Scotlandspeople, gives the date(s) as 6 August 1796 in Abbey (Paisley) and 8 Dec. 1796 in Kilmaronock. I understand that banns needed to be posted in both the bride and groom parishes, but why would the date in the family bible be the year before? As a side note, their first child was recorded in the bible as being born 14 Feb. 1797. Is it possible that the couple married outside the church and decided to have it formalized because of the expected child? Also, the first child, a son, was named Robert. The father's father was John. Other than that, the naming pattern for their other children seems to follow the traditional pattern. Any help in trying to make sense of this would be very much appreciated. Erin Gibbs OH, USA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
