Author: kelvinbell1 Surnames: Josef Keller Hackell Classification: marriage Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/22279/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone have information about whether it was normal to be married in your own home in Scotlan d in the 1870s? My wife's gt. grandfather was married in Edinburgh in 1870. The extract from the Register of Marriages states that the marriage took place at 15 Catherine Street "after Banns according to the Forms of the Church of Scotland". There is a Minister named and two witnesses. However, the usual residence of the bride and groom is also given as 15 Catherine Street. Is it likely that they were married at home rather than in a Church? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
