Hi Tim I think that it is likely he was born in Coatbridge. I found the family (I think) in the USA 1920 Census on www.familysearch.org for Precinct B Part Of Holyoke 6 Part Of, Hampden, Massachusetts. The head of household is Harry White - age 45, Jane White - age 40, Helen Sim - 16, William Sim - 14, Elivia Sim - 13, and George Sim - 11. George is listed as step son. I suggest you join the Lanark mailing list and repost your query. Lot's of knowledgeable people on that mailing list. He was the son of George Sims and Jane "Contley." Jane brought her family to America when they were quite young. She re-married here in the USA so it is likely the father was deceased, likely before she left Scotland. I am unable to find a townland or village by the name of "Cotbritte" or the name of "Contley." I am trying to piece together our family connection to a long held family bible signed by Dr. David Livingstone the explorer. Sabina Smith (b. (b.1818 Pollockshaws Lanarkr). I am only able to find the family as a unit in the 1841 Scotland Census - and this actually lists Mary Livingstone's 2 sister's Margaret & Jane living with them. I am hoping to locate some information (Marriage/Death) that may tell me Mary's parents names so I can see perhaps how she may fit into the Livingstone tree - if at all. Thomas Denham Smith actually emigrated to Australia in 1853, leaving the family behind in Scotland. In 1856, in Melbourne, he re-marries an Elizabeth Fairhurst. He says he is a Widower from 1854. Family whispers said this was not true, so I would also truly like to discover if Mary Livingstone died in Scotland in 1854, and any record of her marriage to Thomas Denham Smith. Hello there Kerry Is it possible to give us his name? With an unusual name, there is a possibility that it links in some way to his birth family. If you were adopting a child and wanted to keep that secret, surely you would give the child an ordinary name? Hello Fellow list members, I am new to this list and hoping that someone might help me in my search for information on my uncle William Sword Barker.
