    1. [SCOTLAND] Bible Marriage Date Does Not Match OPR Dates
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: rhiannon843 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/22332/mb.ashx Message Board Post: According to the family bible brought from Scotland to America in 1832, James Anderson and Janet McGregor (McGrigor) were married 28 Oct. 1795. However, the records in OPR found on Scotlandspeople, gives the date(s) as 6 August 1796 in Abbey (Paisley) and 8 Dec. 1796 in Kilmaronock. I understand that banns needed to be posted in both the bride and groom parishes, but why would the date in the family bible be the year before? As a side note, their first child was recorded in the bible as being born 14 Feb. 1797. Is it possible that the couple married outside the church and decided to have it formalized because of the expected child? Also, the first child, a son, was named Robert. The father's father was John. Other than that, the naming pattern for their other children seems to follow the traditional pattern. Any help in trying to make sense of this would be very much appreciated. Erin Gibbs OH, USA Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello to Scotland's list. I am new to this one, so I am hoping that someone can help, I have only a little to go on, well here goes. I am looking for any census, certificate or general information on a person called James Nicholson. I believe in was born between 1822 - 1840 in Scotland. He was a gunner in the royal artillery, and was stationed at Liverpool Battery, Liverpool. Where he met his wife Sarah Anderson, they married 9th April 1865 at St Nicholas church Liverpool, they had three children before he died 1869 ? { not too sure }. His married certificate gives his father as William Nicholson profession Miller. Nothing else is known about him or his family, hoping the Scottish census might throw a light if anyone has access to them and may share them with me. See as I am new I must thank you all for taking the time to read my request for help and not to put any out by this letter. Thank you Sandybear

Author: dezigner98 Surnames: McEachren/MacEachren/McCachren Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.general/22328/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Looking for information on James McCachren & Mary Ralston . 1. James McCachren(AKA McEachren) Birth 1736 in Cantyre,Campbelstown ,Scotland (Campbeltown Kintyre Argyll Scotland) Death 22 Sept. 1822 in Brandywine, Chester, Pennsylvania, USA Mary Ralston Birth in Cantyre,Campbelstown ,Scotland Death in Brandywine, Chester, Pennsylvania, USA According to the "Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Presbyteries. Ca" . Rev. Robert McCachren. 189 The Rev. Robert McCachren was descended from a Scotch ancestry. His great grandfather emigrated from Cantyre, near Campbelstown, Scotland, about 1725. He came with his wife four sons and one daughter to this country and settled in the Forks of the Brandywine, Chester county. Pa. The McCach- ren's have a historical record among the clans of the highlands of Scotland. In the British Encyclopedia, in the article on Cantyre, it is stated that at the beginning of the sixteenth cen- tury, the former inhabitants of the peninsula, prior to its divi- sion, were the McDonald's, McCachren's, McHays'. McMath's and others. James, the grandfather of Robert, was placed soon after their settlement here, in the family of Rev. Wm. Dean, a New Side Presbyterian minister, at the Forks of the Brandywine to earn a livelihood. In this position, while his fare was scanty and the discipline rigid, the general influence upon his character and future life is believed to have been most salutary. He was subsequently married to Mary Ralston, who came, some years later, from the same place in Scotland. To them were born three sons, James, John and Robert. By reason of their industrious and frugal habits, in 1790. James, the grandfather, was able to purchase from the original proprietors, the Penn's, over two hundred acres of land, on the eastern branch of Brandywine creek, about five miles north of Downingtown, Pa. Here he lived, following the occupation of a farmer and reared his family. At the death of his wife, he divided this land between his two older sons, James and John, and made other provision for his youngest son, Robert, the father making his home with his children until his death, which occurred September 22. 1822, in the eighty-seventh year of his age.
