Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/EgC.2ACE/9923.1.1 Message Board Post: Liz Thanks so much for the lookup. My Robert could be either of those -- or neither one. (I've learned to take the ages listed in a census with a very large grain of salt!) This has been such a hard family to trace. Robert and Jane's 1854 marriage bann was read in Barony. He is "of Calton" according to the bann. In the 1861 census Robert and Jane are living in Bridgeton and Robert's birthplace is listed as Glasgow. He could be in any of those places - or none. Or the name could be misspelled. The surname is spelled WADDEL in the 1861 census and WODELL in the 1870 U.S. Census (took me years to find him with that spelling!). Again, thanks so much for your time. It is greatly appreciated. Lisa

My mother just found out his name right before her mother passed away. This would of been around 1941 - 1942 in the Clifton area. As I know it was a one night stand that conceived my mother and Thomas never knew.

The family story says he was of Scottish descent. Anyone else have a similar pattern? I've found one other family that followed the Scotland > Wurttemberg > America pattern, the Leslies. I'd like to find whether there was a sizable refugee population of Scotsmen in Wurttemberg.

Hi Listers. This is possibly a hard one due to the popularity of the surname YOUNG. But, I am trying to find any info on a Robert YOUNG. He was born in Scotland in 1847 +/- ? In 1881 on the census disks, he was lodging with a Helen FRENCH in Liverpool (RG11, 3630, 138, 17.) Age quoted as 34, birth place Scotland. Occ Cotton porter. On May 2 1887 he married a Elizabeth RYLANCE in West Derby, Lancashire. (age given as 38) He then moved to Prescot and worked as general labourer. On his marriage certificate he gives his father as a James YOUNG. Occ either, Lawyer or Sawyer, deceased. Any help on above would be great or has anyone connections with these? Sadly thats all I know. Thanking you all for looking. Maurice.
