Nancy Ketchersid Howard hosts the Ketchersid/e reunions which we have every other year at different locations in the states, where the heavier consentrations of K families lived in the past. She also has a publication of the Ketcherside newsletter, and we are contemplating doing a monthly Ketcherside newsletter as we now have much much of the older information. And we are from England there are many many Kethchersides in England, and there is even a Ketcherside Village there. We have many many connections, and I have collected info on your familys of K's also. I don't often get into this 'post a message site' as I am too busy with publications and genealogy in general, but would love to hear from you and learn of your Ketcherside families....we are a very large organization and would love to have you join us. He sailed with three brothers, father, mother and two younger siblings. The mother and the two younger siblings died during the voyage. Neal and one of his brothers came to Canada, Neal and his wife,Sarah had a farm in the Township of Trafalgar, Ontario--what is known today as Milton, Ontario. Neal and Sarah had 8 children and I am decended from one of thier sons, Daniel McDuffe who was born in 1912. I have heard that the two brothers who remained in the United States had plantations in Virginia. Do you have any information on these brothers. I don't have any information on the brother who came to Canada with Neal either. I'd love to hear from you to make sure we are talking about the same family of McDuffe's--I hope so. My grandfather moved to Vancouver,B.C. in 1912 to set up a Pharmacy with his brother Russell. For some reason they changed the spelling of their last name to Mc Duffee. Hope to hear from you Marianne Clayton, Sidney B.C.

    1. Re: [SCOTLAND] McANALLY SURNAME DNA PROJECT
    2. Blake
    3. One can only guess, as there are numerous reasons why surnames are spelled in a variety of ways, the most common one being poor schooling in earlier times, or carelessness in writing the surname, but I would think they are likely all related. In the Vancouver BC phone book, there are listings for McNalley (two), McNally (thirty-one), Macnally (one), MacAnally (one), many McNeils, MacNeils, Macneils, McNeills, McNeillies, McNealies, etc etc. My guess is that they are all originally connected and that you are dealing with one of the surnames with a great many variants. I know no more about it than anybody else who has done a little genealogical research. I am sure there are experts who can advise and help you, and others who have researched the same names, maybe a clan or sept adviser, so I hope you will not find it a discouraging prospect. Keep at it, and good luck.
